PADI Instructor / Dive Master

With over three decades of diving experience and 36 years of island life, I’ve made the reefs of Cozumel my home.

After 15 years working with a larger dive company, I purchased the original Sleeping Shark boat and the owners allowed me to keep the Challenge Diving name to continue providing the same excellent, personalized service customers had come to expect from Challenge Diving. Since then, we’ve grown our business with the addition of the Baby Shark and a completely updated Sleeping Shark—a new vessel that shares the same name.

Every time I dive into the ocean, I’m still inspired by the reef and its marine life. Cozumel is one of the most beautiful places in the world to dive, and I love sharing it with my customers every day! There’s nothing like seeing a student go from a nervous beginner to a happy, energized diver experiencing a whole new world around them.

Challenge Diving is more than a business- it’s a family. I’m proud to share this journey with my son, Eric Jr., and our amazing captains, who are like family too. Passing on my love of diving to my children—and soon, my grandchildren—is one of my greatest joys!

Hello! My name is Eric Pérez, but you can call me EJ, Jr., or E2 (short for Eric Segundo). I've been part of the Challenge Diving team for over 12 years, and it has become my second home.

I'm your diving guide for the Sleeping Shark and Baby Shark. But really, I'm more than just a guide—I'm here to make sure your dive is unique, fun, and unforgettable!
